The Hernandez Laboratory is focused on maternal physiology, specifically at the intersection of pregnancy and lactation. The lab is primarily focused on how maternal biology is influenced by the production of milk and how this impacts health of the mom and the offspring. We utilize multiple models (cows, mice, and humans) to study the biology underpinning a successful pregnancy and lactation, and optimal offspring outcomes. Our work translates across multiple mammalian species with the overall goal of improving maternal health and physiology, while supporting milk production and offspring outcomes.
